APPROACH
The Phil and Penny Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact at the University of Oregon features a wayfinding, signage, donor recognition, and bistro branding program supporting a dynamic research environment focused on innovation and global impact. The design establishes clear navigation across laboratories, collaboration spaces, and public areas through a refined palette of materials and typography aligned with the architecture.
A strategy to develop a unified visual system is expressed through moments of integration across the building. Extending beyond wayfinding, donor recognition and branded elements are incorporated into key architectural features, including a wall honoring the Papé family. The café bistro introduces a more intimate layer, drawing from the Riverfront context through soft linework and refined typography to create a welcoming destination with a distinct identity that supports daily use.
OUTCOME
The result is a legible environment that brings clarity to a complex research setting. The system supports efficient navigation across laboratories, collaboration spaces, and public areas, while reinforcing the campus’s academic identity and mission. Donor recognition and branded elements are embedded within the architecture, contributing to a purposeful and refined sense of place.
